Juz H back on Form!
It was ten years ago that Justin Hawkins first started
making SA climbing history with his redpoint of
Bennita (33/8b+, Montagu) and he didn't
stop there. His ‘firsts’ (for an SA
climber) up until recently have included:
First 30/8a onsight (Paragon, 30,
Wave Cave, KZN),
First 8A+ boulder problem (Boogie Nights,
Rocklands),
F irst 8B boulder problem (Armed Response,
Rocklands).
And now after somewhat of a sabbatical from the
envelope-pushing territory he resides so well in,
Justin has exploded back onto the scene with the
first South African redpoint of a 34/8c! The route
in question, Streetfighter (34/8c aka Two
to Win, Main Amphitheatre, Oudtshoorn) is a
burly beauty opened by Canadian Grant Campbell last
year.
