At least eight hikers have been robbed at knife-point on Lion's Head in a brazen series of muggings.

Francie of Oranjezicht said she and friends had been on the way down Lion's Head just before sunset on Sunday when they were accosted by three knife-wielding men near the paragliders' launch pad.

"When we got to the road after the incident, the police were there, already talking to other people who had also been mugged." She said it appeared the muggings had taken place in less than 15 minutes.

A Canadian brother and sister, who did not want to be named, were among the other victims.
