Marianne Pretorius in accident at the Rock Rally.

Marianne Pretorius took a fall during the 2006 Rock Rally held last weekend in Waterval Boven. Although she suffered a serious blow to the head which resulted in fractured skull, it is reported that she is stable and that extensive tests have indicated her brain to be in a good condition.

The accident took place when Marianne and her climbing partner James Pittman were simul-abseiling into the crag at the Main waterfall. The crag was to be the first they would visit as the Rock Rally had only just begun. Unfortunately the rope hadn't reached the ground on both ends which resulted in James, who was closer to the ground at the time, abseiling off the end of the rope. He fell himself a few metres and thereby removed the counterweight that Marianne was relying on as her anchor.

Further news of her condition was not available at this time.
