Table Mountain Attacker Identified - iol

By Caryn Dolley

A Salt River man has been identified by two cyclists as the person who robbed them of their bicycles on Table Mountain in August.

Mohammed Fawaaz Lackay, 20, appeared in the Wynberg magistrate's court on Monday on two charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The charge sheet said the two cyclists had "positively identified" him at an identity parade last Thursday.

Lackay told the court he wanted to apply for bail. The state said it would oppose bail.

Guy Lanfear was robbed of his bicycle and other items on August 15. Ten days later cyclist William Simpson was robbed. Lackay was arrested at a hideout on the mountain four days later.

One of the stolen bicycles was found at his home. The second bicycle and a backpack were found near the hideout. Lackay's bail application was postponed to October 3.
