Latest Incidents go Unreported
- Table Mountain Safety Action Group
The muggings continue on Table Mountain (incidents have been reported to SAPS in the past week (November 12, 2007)).
The latest hotspot is Rhodes Memorial, where once again a mugger is targeting bikers. The authorities are not putting out any kind of press release so unless victims contact the press themselves the wider public is not going to be made aware of these incidents. This is a situation we have complained about in the past - we believe the authorities should warn people of hotspots and recent incidents - but they won't because SAPS are more intimately involved now.
So it's up to us to quietly spread the word and warn people to be aware and to immediately report anything suspicious to: 0861 106 417 - We advise people to program this as “”Emergency - Table Mountain Safety”” (However - be aware that this number has proven to be unreliable in the past and for that reason we advise using the following two numbers directly - especially for immediate emergencies. Don't mess around with the 0861 number if you are in serious trouble) 10111 SAPS directly - Program as “”Emergency – SAPS”” AND “”Emergency - SAPS Central”” 021 467 8002 (this is Caledon Square Ops Centre in Cape Town - these guys are highly sensitizes to the situation on the mountain so this would be the fastest route to a quick response. These number are then quick to select by just typing in Emergency on your phone.
