Silvermine Restrictions lifted
- Brent Jennings and Bill Tucker
This is to let you know that the Kestrels nesting
at Silvermine main
crag have fledged, so all routes there are now
open again.
Sadly, the Muizenberg, Peers Cave and Lakeside
kestrels failed to breed.
There are still nesting Peregrines on Nursery
Buttress, so the few folk
who climb there should take note. The site is
on the right of Buccaneer,
so most of the commonly done routes should not
be affected.
SANParks and the Raptor Group wish to convey their
thanks to all
climbers who respected this temporary closure.
I did communicate our concerns regarding the
on-site signage to the
relevant people, so hopefully it will be clearer
in future.
cheers
Brent
And from Bill...
just a note that the starlings at Blaze of Glory
are _super_ aggressive. They've got chicks up
in the crack in the 16 (3rd from the right). They
dive bomb your head, and they also peck at the
rope and quickdraws at the anchor. Perhaps it's
wise to wait until they start flying before climbing
near them. They also went for us on the left hand
side of the crag.
