Four Dutch tourists were held up at knife point while hiking up Skeleton Gorge on Wednesday.

According to Phumeza Mgxashe, spokespoerson for the Table Mountain National Park, the tourists were approached by three knife-wielding men who threatened them, demanding they hand over their belongings.

"The tourists tried to negotiate with them, but the robbers made off with their goods," said Mgxashe.

The robbers took money, cellphones and cameras before fleeing on foot.

The tourists contacted the Kirstenbosch security officers, who searched the area with sniffer-dogs looking for suspects fitting the description of the robbers.

But the search was unsuccessful and the suspects are still at large.
